Well, that’s pinteresting.

I think I may be doing Pinterest wrong.

You tell me if so.

I know there are some profesh Pinteresters out there who are making lots of money and getting lots of repins and what have you. I don’t know how to do any of that. And I don’t want to.

I just like to make collections of things I don’t want to forget and things that I think are pretty.

I lack in strategy. I hope that doesn’t bother you.

Here is my Pinterest plan:

1. Find things I like. Put them on a board with other things in that category.

2. Find things I think other people would like. Put them on a board with other things that other people will like.

3. Make a secret board of gifts so my friends and family don’t know what I want to give them.

4. Make a secret board of wedding ideas so that I don’t forget cool stuff but make sure it is secret so I don’t get chastised by the world for having a wedding board when I am single. :)

Ahem.

Here are the things I’m loving to pin:

Books. I love books. I blog about books I like, books teens will like, and I’m trying to read 33 books in my 33rd year of life [2013].

Party-planning ideas. I do love to plan a good party and I feel like pinterest is full of fun party ideas.

Clothes. I love seeing outfits already put together because, you know, that means I don’t have to put it together myself.

House stuff. Though I’m a renter, I love pinning things on improving my home. I have three good friends that are building or remodeling and good gravy are they filling my pinterest home page. But it’s pretty, so I’m not quitting them. Yet.

Recipes. It sure makes it easy to feed my small group thanks to these recipes.

Some silly things. Like glitter and jokes and fingernail polish.

Also, if I still taught elementary school, I would have the most amazing classroom ever. Pinterest was MADE for teachers and moms, huh?

One of my favorite evening hobbies now is sitting down and scrolling through the popular page and seeing what others are pinning while watching Real Housewives of Atlanta and WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THAT KENYA WOMAN.

. . . . .

What do you love to pin? Want to share your favorite pin? Or pinboard? Do you love Pinterest?

Most importantly… um… am I doing this wrong?

You cannot ‘do’ pinterest wrong. It’s your own board. Let your creativity reign! ;) I just spent a bit of time re-doing my food board. I decided it was time to make several other boards instead of just lumping all in one ‘mouth watering’ board. So, now I have a beverage board and a sugar. the 5th food group board. Happy pinning. Don’t stress over this fun.

You aren’t doing it wrong, unless I am also doing it wrong, in which case, don’t listen to me. I do Pinterest the same as you – see something I like, pin it, move on to the next thing. I had no idea there were professional Pinteresters, where do I apply for that job???

A secret wedding board! Why haven’t I thought of that – it’s brilliant!! I always hesitate to pin all the good and pretty wedding ideas for the same reason – single gal pinning wedding ideas can seem a bit….desperate? stalkerish? crazy cat lady? Anyway. I’m so glad you shared this! Also – I totally pin the same way. If I like or find it funny, it gets pinned. Regardless. :) Now I’m going to scurry off and set up that secret board. Cheers!

I have a board for “Pinterest Projects” – you know – the things I want to try to do – but may never get around to accomplishing?! :) But I ended up just putting a whole lot of recipes on there… with a craft project or two. But the other day I had a genius idea to build something to go around my cat’s litter box to “make it cuter” and I put them on my Pinterest Ideas board. So basically, I have tasty meal ideas right next to cat pictures. What I’m saying here is, you sound as if you’re doing it VERY right… and it could be much much worse ;)

Sounds like the way I do Pinterest. I hope we’re right! I recently have been using my pins to make lined curtains, peasant dresses for the granddaughters, a cover for an ottoman, and to get ideas for the quiet book I made my granddaughter. I actually pinned the quiet book because heaven knows I’ll never have anything else worth pinning! My son is going to spray paint my dining room table and I’ve made him read some of pins. ;) I guess I would say make sure you go back and use what you pin. It makes a world of difference.

So does that make it less embarrasing to admit to watching RHOA if it is while pinning? :) The secret wedding board is a great idea.

I pin about like you do, except for the secret wedding board. I heard about secret boards about the time I got engaged, so I just created a group wedding board. My mom and bridesmaids are authorized to pin ideas to my “A+B Wedding Brainstorming” board so they can share ideas as they find them.

I will confess to having a secret board titled “Potentially Embarrassing” where I pin things I don’t want to admit pinning or that I plan to use to surprise someone!

I don’t think you’re doing it wrong. Personally I haven’t quite understood how its so important to use Pinterest to “build the platform” etc. I like pretty and practical things and like others who do as we’ll. And of we connect…that’s super.

Glitter things? Why I am not following you on Pinterest?! That’s the real question.

And Kenya is cray cray. (Like Gone with the Wind cray cray)

Hi! I just stumbled across your blog after reading some archieves on the incourage website. I found your story about the half marathon and grinned, then read your story about the ornaments and teared up, so I figured I’d stop by your blog and check it out.

I’m so glad I did. I think it’s going to become a regular event for me.

I had to comment on this post because you shameless mentioned RHOA and Kenya being crazy and sometimes I thought I was the only one in the world who watched it without shame, hehe.

    Thanks for the blog!
